INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION SUMMIT

Second Edition – Milan 3 december 2003

The second edition of the International Communication Summit, which took place in Milan on December 3, 2003, dealt with two main issues. The first focused on leaders’ communications skills and the difficult trade-off between confidentiality needs and transparency during crisis management. Neil Golightly, Ford’s Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs in Europe, opened this section, followed by Mario Moretti Polegato (President of Geox) and Bruno D’Onghia (President of EDF Italia), while the political and institutional front was represented by Maurizio Gasparri, Italian Minister for Communications, Marco Follini, President of the Italian UDC Party and Ivor Roberts, Ambassador of Great Britain, who debated with journalists representing the Italian press: Enrico Cisnetto, Antonio Calabrò, Massimo Gaggi and Massimo Mucchetti. The second section of the summit focused more specifically on financial communications. In particular, the discussion revolved around the issue of how transparency can contribute to the growth of financial markets. Janet Guyon, Editor at Large of Fortune Magazine, acted as moderator, introducing speakers like Vincenzo De Bustis (Managing Director of Deutsche Bank Italia), Tommaso Pompei (Managing Director of Wind), Maria Pierdicchi (General Director of Standard&Poor’s Italia) and the journalists Osvaldo De Paolini, Gianni Gambarotta, Paolo Madron and Enrico Romagna-Manoja.
