INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION SUMMIT

First Edition – Rome 20 september 2001

The First International Communications Summit was held on September 20, 2001 in Rome, at Palazzo Rospigliosi, a very short stroll from the Quirinale. The event was a true première for Italy and, in fact, the press defined it as the “Cernobbio Summit for Communications” and “the State of the Union for the Communications sector”. Organized by PMS Corporate Communication in collaboration with Studio Ambrosetti, the event presented an opportunity to talk about the communication skills used by international political figures such as Kofi Annan, Yasser Arafat and Bill Clinton, as well as how proper communication can leverage the value of a company. A specific section was dedicated to financial communications and management of the leader’s image. The extraordinary level of the speakers contributed to increasing the expectations and interest of the participating audience. James Rubin, spokesman of former US president Bill Clinton and ex-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Marie Heuzè, spokeswoman of the UN Secretary General and Marwan Kanafani, Arafat’s spokesman, participated and contributed in the first part of the Summit, which focused on politicians’ communications skills. James Blitz, Italian correspondent for the Financial Times; Renato Rordorf, Consob officer; Carlo Tamburi, Director-General of the Italian Ministry of Economy; Vito Gamberale, Managing Director of Autostrade and Francesco Micheli, President of e.Biscom, enriched the section dedicated to financial communications. Gianni Gambarotta (Il Mondo) and Paolo Panerai (Milano Finanza), the directors of the Italy’s most important financial newspapers and magazines also made interesting contributions to this section.
